A melange of acid jazz, drum and bass and rap making the common sound strange
What can you expect when listening to 2 Cardigans & Bowtie? Well… A melting pot of sounds, personalities, and freedom of expression, it has traces of something you have heard before boldly dominated by something you have never heard before. “Each song in the project expresses a different outlook with the inclusion of many different elements”.
The brainchild of bassist Nkululeko Biyana and the vision of rapper and lyricist Likwidskillz, they officially formed in 2017 with the aim of showcasing the unrestricted music capabilities and talent of its musicians. All five members are also individual artists: Nkululeko Biyana on Bass; Ndzwakazi Ntikinca-Biyana (Utsukushii Likwidskillz) on Vocals; InkosiKhethiwe “King Khethiwe” Mdlalose on Drums and vocals; Moeketsi “Macsau” Tshabalala on Keys and synths; Liziwe Fihlani on Alto Sax.
Despite a rough 2020 they managed to feature on a Zimbabwean online series called “Working Wives”, performed at the annual OR and Adelaide Tambo youth Debate, and were chosen amongst the other applications to collaborate with ConcertsSA for a virtual Concert in Dec 2020. The band is currently recording their debut album and will release their first single out soon. Their motto? Never relax! Coz we coming for everything!
Due to the rather accentuated bassline approach, sporadic time signatures and raps, the outcome is an out-of-the-box thought sound that extends through out different genres making the common sound strange.
