An art-rock and trip-hop, Kraków-based trio
Karolina Ostojska and Weronika Winter put together a grimy, but still poetic and intimate sound. Formerly know simply as Ostojska & Winter (their respective last names), now Marco Trimboli has join them on cajón and percussions. A dirty bass guitar, trip hop beats and a drowsy voice make their sound almost cinematic, as if you were listening to a modern-day film noir soundtrack.
It all started with a spontaneous hitchhiking trip to Kraków where Weronika and Karolina (both from Poznań) met. The city’s charm and creative atmosphere made them stay and for several years they honed their musical skills and defined their style while recording home-made amateur material such as the Polka Song. Towards the end of 2020, they went from a home-grown duo to full four-piece live band. Shortly after, they were joined by Italian (Turin) cajonista, drummer and percussionist Marco Trimboli, consolidating UMMA’s current configuration. With Marco’s new ideas to the rhythmic section and fresh energy to the project at large, they began performing more regularly.
Their sound oscillates from trip-hop and art-pop to alternative rock and sung poetry. In 2021 they took part at the Tak Brzmi Miasto Incubator program. In the fall of 2022, they were part of the line-up at the Kalisz Alternative Festival, and the single To Nic won the Single of the Week prize on the Polish Alternative Music charts.
