The (Recent) Archeology of the Kraków Music Scene

Someone once told us that Kraków is one of those places where apparently nothing happens. It might well be the case of a lost city right at the heart of Europe. As the ancient seat of Polish kings and with a long intellectual and academic tradition, Kraków may seem more like a touristy hub living out from past glory, history, picturesque cityscapes and student life. A place with deep rooted traditions where counterculture attitudes and expressions are more than often dwarfed by conservative values and norms.

It is paradoxically a spot of confluence. A place of gathering that in the last decades has been shocked with a wave of international people who have decided to make it home. Combined with a young generation flocking in from other places in Poland and neighbouring countries, it is a city with a significant population of local foreigners.

The amount of creativity and talent that boils up in such a space is unique. The city becomes the catalyst for many artistic expressions that leak out from a hermetic conventional bubble and the music scene is not the exception. With bursts of genius here and there and a constant hiss of artistic steam, Kraków is one of the Polish cities with a plethora of stories in the music circles.
