A cultural micro-universe hidden in the backstreets of the Main Market Square in Kraków, Strefa is a music venue, a workshop, a gallery and a pub. A place for gathering and a crossing point for musicians, creatives, and culture-buffs alike. Created by artists for artists, it offers and hosts a variety of cultural events, gatherings, courses and workshops.

In a few words
A space of mutual inspiration where on a night you’ll see the bartenders on stage and the next, their in-house musicians behind the bar. Something unique and which is only possible since the venue was created by artists and musicians, mainly the founders Joanna and Jan Słowiński, co-creators of an array of musical projects such as Muzykanci, the EtnoKraków/Crossroads Festival and Kraków House of Dance amongst others.
Their offer
Their programme promotes artists engaged with old musical traditions (StrefaEtno) and performers for whom ethno music is the starting point of their creative process and interpretations (StrefaJazz, StrefaOtwarta). Some of their most relevant projects include Dwukropek (: Colon), an interdisciplinary forum gathering artists mainly from the genre of literary song; workshop, dancing parties incorporating both, traditional Polish and international dances.
Communities are an essential part of the venue’s agenda. Focused on the classic jazz era of the 1920s & 30s America, the Swing Experience organises courses and events for enthusiasts every Monday preceded by a lesson for beginners, allowing for all participants to hit the dance floor on their first day. The Forró Krakow community is another example where lovers of the Brazilian dance style, advanced and novice, get together.
Courses & workshops
You can also dive into Polish and Slavic culture attending the weekly courses of Polish traditional dances or the vocal workshops focusing on traditional, archaic songs of the Slavic countries. Internationally acclaimed folk singer Joanna Słowińska leads both sessions.
EtnoKraków Festival
The cultural pilar and musical direction of the venue, the Rozstaje Crossroads Association organises activities related to endangered traditions and supports initiatives that encourage attitudes of tolerance, integration, intercultural dialogue and communication in the field of art. The highlight of the year is the EtnoKraków Crossroad Festival, an educational and musical programme with over twenty years of tradition and organised in collaboration with the Kraków Festival Office the last few editions.
Strefa – mikrokosmos skrywany w centrum miasta. Klub muzyczny, pub, przestrzeń warsztatowa i wernisażowa. Miejsce spotkań; przecięcie ścieżek wielu tancerzy, śpiewaków, muzyków. Twórców i odbiorców sztuki, nauczycieli i uczniów – nierzadko w jednej osobie. Przestrzeń wzajemnej inspiracji.
Jedyne takie miejsce, gdzie jednego wieczoru każdego z barmanów zobaczymy na scenie, każdego z muzyków zobaczymy za barem. Stanie się tak, ponieważ klub od początku tworzony jest przez grających i śpiewających – poczynając od jego założycieli – Joanny i Jana Słowińskich, współtwórców wielu projektów muzycznych (Muzykanci, solowe projekty Joanny), animatorów sceny etno (festiwal EtnoKraków/Rozstaje, Dom Tańca Kraków. i in.).
Akcent programowy koncertowej sceny klubu Strefa to promocja artystów kultywujących tradycje najstarszych źródeł kultury muzycznej (StrefaEtno) oraz wykonawców, dla których inspiracja muzyką źródeł jest punktem wyjścia dla własnej, twórczej interpretacji (StrefaJazz, StrefaOtwarta). Ważne projekty klubu Strefa to również: scena Dwukropek – cykliczne forum skupiające młodych artystów nurtu piosenki literackiej oraz cykliczne spotkania w formie potańcówek i warsztatów, obejmujących naukę polskich tańców tradycyjnych, tańców z różnych regionów Europy i innych kontynentów (DomTancaKrakow, ForróKrakow). Jest enklawą różnorodnych i wielokulturowych tanecznych środowisk, wśród nich: The Swing Experience – społeczność organizującej warsztaty i potańcówki dla miłośników stylów związanych z muzyką jazz/blues Ameryki lat 20. i 30. dwudziestego wieku; w Strefie spotykają się w każdy poniedziałek na potańcówce poprzedzonej godzinnym, otwartym warsztatem dla początkujących. Forró Kraków – w ciągu tygodnia pod tym szyldem odnajdziemy warsztaty w programie zaprzyjaźnionej szkoły tańca Kontakt. W Strefie to natomiast weekendowe potańcówki i koncerty – wieczory muzyki brazylijskiej – forró i nie tylko; również zawsze otwarte na nowych tancerzy.
Imperatyw działań klubu Strefa oraz współtworzącego program Stowarzyszenia Rozstaje – to aktywność na rzecz tradycji zagrożonych i wspieranie inicjatyw kształtujących postawę tolerancji, integracji, międzykulturowego dialogu i porozumienia na gruncie sztuki. Kulminacją działań koncertowych i edukacyjnych Stowarzyszenia Rozstaje i klubu Strefa – jest doroczny, organizowany od ponad dwudziestu lat – a od kilku lat we współpracy z Krakowskim Biurem Festiwalowym – międzynarodowy festiwal EtnoKraków/Rozstaje.
